Love For The Season
Have you ever been in the middle of one season wishing it were the next? I have found myself surrounded by the warm splendor of a summer day while pinning Pintrest pins about apple cider, pumpkin scones and autumnal front porches. I am completely missing the beauty that's happening around me! The same can be true in real life! We can get so caught up in waiting for what's next that we totally miss out on what's happening now! Can you relate? While in college, we can't wait to get our first real "adult" job. When we are engaged, we have a countdown to mark off the days until our wedding. After being newlyweds for a short time, we start wondering when we are going to have a baby or buy our first home or get that promotion at work. It's human nature to look ahead with hopeful aspirations. However, I feel like I have not enjoyed to the fullest each season of my life because I am too anxious for the next chapter. So often my husband and I dream about the days when we will become parents and all of the sweet memories we will have of our little ones growing up. First steps, first words, first birthdays and first days of school are all on the list of things we can't wait to experience! Why can't those days just get here already?? However, we have spent too much time hoping and worrying that we are missing the wonderful life that we already have. God knows the desires of our hearts and He has the master plan. It's not that we shouldn't continue praying. We should and we will but we are done with wasting precious time. You can be too. If you are walking in the same shoes, you can know that there is such peace and such beauty in letting things go!
Not so long ago, God spoke comfort to my soul through His Word. I was reading in Exodus (ch. 14) about the Israelites escape from Egypt. Pharaoh and his army were hot on their trail while the Israelites shared their worries with Moses, their leader. They wanted so badly to get to freedom and immediate, frightening situation was not on their bucket list. Moses's response to their fears was full of truth and power. He said "Don't be afraid; stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today....the Lord will fight for you; you only need to be still." He goes on to tell them that God will bring glory to himself through Pharaoh and his men. One of the many things that I love about scripture is that it is timeless. God's words spoken through his servant Moses in the times of antiquity still bring hope to our hearts today! Rest in the promise that God has got this! It's all under control. No matter what tomorrow brings, the Lord can use it for His glory. So enjoy the loveliness of everyday life...every sunrise and sunset. Be still and love the season that you are in! "For this is the day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it!"
